As we embark on the new year, the Human Performance & Sport Science Center (HPSSC) is thrilled to welcome Dr. Harjiv Singh to the team. Recently relocated from Orlando, Florida to the Mitten State with his wife, Upahvan Kaur, who is currently completing her medical residency in Urology at the University of Michigan-Sparrow, Dr. Singh brings a wealth of expertise to our community.
Dr. Singh currently serves as the Performance and Development Scientist with the Orlando Magic, specializing in data science related to player development and employing analytics to elevate player performance. Before joining the Orlando Magic, he earned his PhD in Motor Control and Learning, accumulating experience in professional baseball and volleyball along the way.
At the University of Michigan, Dr. Singh will assume the role of lecturer I, teaching courses on Topics in Human Performance (KINSTUDY 200) and Technology and Data in Sports Science (KINSTUDY 201). Expressing his excitement about joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Singh stated, “I am thrilled to be part of U-M’s vibrant culture that promotes a sense of community and collaboration. I look forward to working with the esteemed faculty and staff, learning from their experiences, and contributing to the academic community.”
Dr. Singh is enthusiastic about contributing to HPSSC, recognizing its vital role in advancing sport science research and education. He aims to inspire students to develop a passion for learning, fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment where students feel empowered to explore their interests and contribute to the collective knowledge of the community.
Outside of his academic pursuits, Dr. Singh is a passionate supporter of volleyball. While he did not make it onto the US Men’s National Volleyball Team during tryouts, he continues to play the sport competitively, both indoors and outdoors.
Reflecting on his philosophy, Dr. Singh shares his favorite quote from Albert Einstein: “Out of clutter, find simplicity.”
