Our History
The HPSSC was originally launched in 2016 as the Exercise and Sport Science Initiative (ESSI), with inaugural funds from the U-M Vice President for Research, Provost, and Athletic Director. Over the years, our mission, vision, and goals have grown, evolved, and crystalized to support comprehensive research, education, and outreach programs at the University of Michigan.
Now, as the Human Performance & Sport Science Center, our new name more closely aligns with our Global Vision: Optimal performance and health for people of all ages and abilities.
Our Global Vision
Optimize the physical performance and health for people of all ages and abilities.
Whether it is through one of our several academic offerings, growing and engaging in our research community, or attending one of our outreach events, we hope you will consider joining us as we seek to make the University of Michigan the hub for optimizing the performance and health for people of all ages and abilities!
