Harjiv Singh is a Lecturer for the Human Performance & Sport Science Center, HPSSC, at the University of Michigan bringing experience in sport and data science to elevate athlete health and performance. In his role, Harjiv will help develop and deliver courses to support HPSSC’s educational goals.

Dr. Singh is currently the Senior Performance and Development Scientist with the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. Previously, he served in a similar capacity with the Orlando Magic. Harjiv was also appointed as the Director of Performance Science for the Grand Rapids Rise in their inaugural season in the Pro Volleyball Federation where the Rise reached the championship match.

Dr. Singh received his Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from Rutgers University as well as a master’s degree in motor control and learning from Columbia University. After playing volleyball briefly overseas, he continued to pursue his research interests by completing a Doctor of Philosophy in motor control and learning from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Harjiv’s research agenda is focused on how different practice variables such as attention and motivation effect movement variability as they relate to skill development and expertise. In addition to developing a deeper understanding of these individual differences in motor learning, Harjiv’s research has also focused on practical strategies that can be used practitioners to augment current injury prevention and rehabilitation interventions.

He currently also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Motor Learning and Development as well as an associate editor for Research Quarterly in Exercise and Sport.
