Students will explore topics related to social contexts within a sports science framework through a range of social and cultural influences on key aspects of health and well-being.

Throughout the course, we will explore the following topics as they relate to sport and exercise:

  • Gender
  • Physical and Social Development
  • Genetics
  • Sociocultural factors
  • Psychological stress
  • Race & Ethnicity
  • Accessibility
  • Physical function
  • Cognitive function
  • Substance use and ergogenic aid (performance enhancing) regulation
  • Health literacy

The discussions and course activities will not only apply to sports science topics, but may be translated more broadly to other disciplines (such as humanities, psychology, sociology), and students’ personal and professional interests.
